Christmas 2010 in Russia

A well earned family break to our second home in St. Petersburg; initially in the city the weather and light were not too kind this trip, but I did manage to get out and brave the ice and snow a few times.  A five hour train journey took us to Veliky Novgorod (Великий Новгород) a little to the south and west of St. Petersburg.  This city with a walled Kremlin is one of Russia’s most historic cities and it lies along the Volkov river  just below its outflow from Lake Ilmen.
