Christmas 2010 in Russia

Christmas 2010 in Russia

A well earned family break to our second home in St. Petersburg; initially in the city the weather and light were not too kind this trip, but I did manage to get out and brave the ice and snow a few times.  A five hour train journey took us to Veliky Novgorod (Великий Новгород) a little to the south and west of St. Petersburg.  This city with a walled Kremlin is one of Russia’s most historic cities and it lies along the Volkov river  just below its outflow from Lake Ilmen.

Corporate Event – Duxford

Corporate Event – Duxford

CSR held their annual Christmas event this year at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, the event included dinner, live band, dancing and presentations.  I covered the event, but before the guests arrived, I first had chance to browse the exhibition, which includes ‘AirSpace’, the story of British and Commonwealth aviation which played a major role in aircraft development since the early pioneering days.

Some of the aircraft include Concorde, Sunderland, de Havilland Comet4, Hawker Hunter, Canberra, Lancaster, Spitfire, Avro Anson, Lightening, Victor and Vulcan.  The venue was spectacularly lit for the event, it was really wonderful being amongst the aircraft in such a large space with 1940’s music really adding to the atmosphere.

Cambridge Fun Run 2010

Cambridge Fun Run 2010

The annual Cambridge Fun-Run raises money for ‘BBC Children in Need’.  The run is actually a relay race, teams from the surrounding sponsoring companies compete against each other. The fastest team in each category wins a prize, categories include Men’s/Women’s/Mixed relay teams, best fancy dress.  Teams comprise four people, hence 4 laps of the Science Park are completed by each team although some individuals might choose to form a team by themselves and complete all four laps.  The race starts and finishes on the forecourt outside Cambridge Consultants on the Science Park.

The weather was incredible this year, the warm November sun coming out just before the race started, this year.  Thanks to the generosity of the runners and their sponsors including the supporting companies, the event raised a record £18,200 for BBC’s Children in Need!

The first run, in the form of a relay race on the Science Park was held in 1989, this concept of a relay race fuels the fierce rivalry between teams!
