Native American
Ancestral Pueblos were an ancient Native American culture centred on the Four Corners Region and believed to emerge around 1200BC. They often lived in stone structures built within caves on the high mesas and farmed land above on the plateaus. Access to the houses was often via ladders which could be removed for increased security.
The Navajo Tribe (the Diné) are one of the very few Native American tribes that still live on their ancestral land after being driven off during ‘The Long Walk‘ in 1864. They returned in 1868 after the US Government relocated the tribe to their traditional sacred boundaries. The Navajo traditionally live in octagonal or round houses called hogans.
