Salzburg
Due to family commitments, I found myself arriving on a Ryanair flight heading into the city of Salzburg. It was raining hard, but that first evening I managed to find a live band playing in a make-shift stage for the end of a week-long music festival. The city of Salzburg has a lot of history from about the 5th century BC and so is an amazing place to visit and photograph. It is perhaps best known today as the birthplace of Amadeus Wolfgang Mozart. Christian Doppler was also from the city, but you baby boomers will know Salzburg as the city where The Sound of Music was filmed; it was first shown in 1965.
Much against my usual modus operandi, I decided to take the Sound-of-Music tour bus, they have two different audio commentaries, one for the historical city and one for the Sound of Music, which I listened to. I actually found it very interesting; so much so, that I bought the Blu-ray when I got home as the movie has been remastered for its 45th anniversary, the quality is amazing and I fully recommend it. It’s based on a true story about the von Trapp family, Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer play the leading roles. The movie won just about every award possible; it truly was a game changer, and that’s saying something as I hate musicals.
